Additional excellent suggestions were put forward for plenary and keynote speakers for the upcoming conference. Please cast your vote to help narrow down the options. Keynote option:

  • Dr. Khaled El Emam, Canada Research Chair in Medical AI, University of Ottawa; Co-founder and CEO of Replica Analytics. Well known leading-edge thinker in AI and health data analytics. This angle would be about innovation from an AI and data use perspective and how to manage and understand the privacy considerations.
  • Mary-Jane Dykeman, Managing Partner at INQ Law. Focused on data governance and regulatory perspective
  • Josephine Yam – CEO & Co-Founder, Privacy & AI Lawyer, and AI Ethicist, Skills4Good AI focused on the ethics and a responsible AI approach.
  • Dr. Demis Hassabi – Following his early work in AlphaGo (Documentary) to the founding/acquisition of Google DeepMind to the revolutionary founding of AlphaFold (a programthat depicts protein structures), Demis has continued to push the boundaries of artificial general intelligence to compliment human discoveries. Key ideas to look forward to from Google DeepMind, AlphaFold, and his work: Greater emphasis of Responsible AI (safety and ethics) – although AI has the potential to accelerate discovery, it has just as much (or more) potential to be misused. The new era of “Digital Biology” – Google DeepMind has tapped into Isomorphic Labs to build on the proof of concepts of AlphaFold and reimagine drug discovery. The AlphaFold models are being replicated to create impact in areas of neglected diseases, plastic pollution, and structural biology. AlphaFold 3 is on the horizon. In response to the evolving nature of AI and life sciences, Demis emphasized that “we shouldn’t go fast and break things.”
  • Dr. Anna Goldenberg – Research Scientist: Dr. Goldenberg obtained her PhD at Carnegie Mellon University in Machine Learning and did her post doctoral training at Penn Centre for Bioinformatics and then the Donnelly Centre. She is the first Varma Family Chair in Biomedical Informatics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) Research Institute, where she also co-leads the AI in Medicine for Kids (AIM) initiative. She is a CIFAR AI Chair and a fellow of CIFAR’s Child and Brain Development group. Additionally, she is the research theme co-lead at the Temerty Centre for Artificial Intelligence Research and Education in Medicine (T-CAIREM) where she helps foster innovation in AI in Medicine research.

She has deep knowledge of Canada’s health care systems, and her network of connections across the country and passion for telling important stories would make her a great speaker to close off the conference around highlighting the need for data, digital technologies in advancing health care and the public good. Cohosts a number of podcasts around health issues and data for CIHI as well
  • Farah Alibay, Canadian aerospace engineer at NASA exploring space with robots. AI and space travel as it relates to healthcare
  • Sébastien Sasseville – An author, speaker, and athlete, Sébastien Sasseville is a frequent guest on radio & TV shows and he has been featured in countless newspapers and magazines. Sébastien Sasseville is a world class communicator, well known for his inspiring stories, humor and dynamic speeches. Some of his achievements include reaching to top of mount Everest, running across Canada and completing the toughest race on earth, the mythical Race Across America. Sebastien lives with Type 1 diabetes, making his accomplishments even more impressive.
